Adolescent & Family Counseling

After working with adolescents for nearly 20 years, I have great appreciation for young people as insightful, passionate influencers of their culture. At the same time, I have found that they are exceptionally impressionable and often lost in, and overwhelmed by, their emotions. We were all there once. If we stop to reflect, we remember longing for independence while simultaneously struggling to make sense of the confusion of adolescence.

It can be difficult to know how to come alongside an adolescent during this stage of development. Just at the time that you wish your son or daughter would look to you for guidance and support, they turn to their friends. While this is an important step in their journey toward adulthood, it can be downright frightening and devastating.

As a counselor, I see my role as coming alongside you as parents to support your son or daughter through one of the most challenging times of life - to help them make sense of their emotions and learn skills that will help them successfully navigate adolescence and beyond. I work hard to build rapport with my adolescent clients and model healthy communication with parents. I strive to involve the family in the therapy process while also maintaining client confidentiality. I am confident that you will find me to be a collaborative, supportive therapist both to your son or daughter as well as to your family.
